Project Overview

Five years into managing SEO, I attended ShopTalk and saw something most people in the room weren't talking about yet — AI was about to change how people find products, and almost no one was ready for it. I pitched the shift internally and got to work before the industry caught up.

The goal wasn't just to rank higher on Google. It was to make sure our brand shows up when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or any AI answer engine a question we should own the answer to.

My Approach

The strategy runs on three layers working together.

The first is the product content engine. Our internal database is wired with AI integrations that generate SEO titles, meta descriptions, product info, sizing, color details, and structured data — all formatted and ready to review with a few button presses. I built the prompts and data structure behind this using vendor data and proprietary knowledge, so every output is accurate, on-brand, and optimized. Over 100 product pages have been rebuilt this way, with Wave 2 now cross-comparing live pages against Profound data to push top performers even further.

The second is the knowledge base. An internal, text-based repository containing everything knowable about our products — full breakdowns, pros and cons, pricing models, customization options, categories, and more. It functions as a fact-checker for all AI-generated content, a blog generation engine, and a source of truth that ensures nothing we publish is ever inaccurate. Blogs generated from it link to products, answer the most searched questions, inject structured FAQ content, and build internal linking throughout the site.

The third is Profound — used to track AI visibility, monitor brand citations across ChatGPT and other tools, and surface the exact questions real users are asking so we can target them with precision.

Impact

SEO rankings are holding strong while traffic and clicks are growing — including on non-featured pages that were previously invisible. The site is now structured to be cited, not just crawled. And because I moved early, we're not catching up to this shift — we're already in it.
